Georginio Wijnaldum couldn’t hold back a smile as he was welcomed by over 65,000 Roma fans ahead of their friendly against Shakhtar Donetsk.

The 31-year-old Dutch midfielder joined the Giallorossi on a loan deal with an €8m buy option attached from Paris Saint-Germain last week, becoming the latest addition to Jose Mourinho’s exciting project in the Italian capital. With players like Paulo Dybala and Nemanja Matic joining before him, Roma are looking strong enough to put up a fight for a top four spot.

Writing on his Twitter page, Wijnaldum thanked the fans for their incredible support during his unveiling at the Stadio Olimpico yesterday.

“Just incredible!  Thank you so much for the overwhelming welcome, I’m very proud and happy to play at this wonderful club with such amazing supporters.”

Wijnaldum will presented by Roma in a press conference tomorrow afternoon, where he’ll discuss his move and thoughts on Jose Mourinho’s project in the Italian capital.

The Dutch midfielder joined Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer last summer and he struggled to show his best for the Ligue 1 side during his debut season. He’ll be hoping to re-find his form with the Giallorossi as they look to secure Champions League qualification.

  1. This seems like something from the future: Roma presenting their players after winning Scudetto, CL, and the Universe Cup (played against other alien civilisations of course).
    Roma fans are fantastic!❤💛
