With some confusion regarding Kevin Danso, it is worth explaining that the Lens defender failed the institutional tests, not those performed by Roma, which suggests a more serious problem.

The player was all set to sign for the Giallorossi, completing a loan with obligation to buy for a €25m package deal, when it suddenly collapsed late last night.

RC Lens released a statement confirming that Roma had withdrawn due to a failed medical and hinted that it was an attempt to lower the price-tag or change the terms of the transfer.

However, Sky Sport Italia, the Corriere dello Sport and many more all specify the medical he failed was not the one performed by Roma, but by the Italian authorities.

Danso failed institutional medical, not Roma tests

They are extremely strict and rigorous with stress tests and ECG results to ensure that everyone who participates in professional sport has a minimal risk of serious complications.

This is also why Christian Eriksen had to leave Inter after having his Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) device, because the Italian rules simply would not allow him to play, whereas he can in England.

According to the reports coming out of Italy, Danso had some irregularities that were flagged for further testing.

Normally, this would simply be a few more days of rigorous checks to make absolutely sure there was nothing seriously wrong, but with transfer deadline day today, there was no time to go through that process and take the risk of buying a player they could not legally use.

So while it is entirely possible that Danso would’ve passed the medical at the second time of asking, Roma could not afford to wait and see.
