La Gazzetta dello Sport explains why Roma can snatch a top-four finish at the expense of Juventus, although the Bianconeri are enjoying a five-point lead with seven games remaining.

José Mourinho’s Roma are unbeaten in 10 games for the first time since 2015-16. Their 1-0 win over Sampdoria and Juventus’ loss against Inter saw the Giallorossi move five points behind Massimiliano Allegri’s men.

Roma have plenty of regrets as they could have been fourth at this stage hadn’t they wasted a two-goal lead against the Old Lady in January. But can they still snatch a Champions League spot?

Regrets and hope for Mourinho’s Roma in the final part of the season

As La Gazzetta dello Sport points out, Mourinho has finally found a balance in the team. They haven’t conceded in 17 games across all competitions: 13 in Serie A and four in the Conference League.

Their new technical system is paying off: one centre forward and many attacking midfielders who can create problems with their late runs into the box. Perhaps, Roma’s team is not as bad as many thought at some point this season, noted the newspaper.

However, Juventus’ the gap between the Giallorossi and Juventus is still considerable and the Old Lady has won both games against Roma this term.

Roma are also still involved in the Conference League and will play in the first leg of the quarter-finals on Thursday. On the other hand, Juventus are still involved in the Coppa Italia and are the favourite to qualify for the Final after winning 1-0 in Florence in the semi-final first leg against Fiorentina.

  1. ‘They haven’t conceded in 17 games across all competitions’ That’s quite impressive. To get 4th would be even more so. Whatever happens let’s hope the team stays together next season.

  2. Calm down. It is Roma, after all lol

    Expect them to bottle it.

Hopefully they can win than Con Lge thing. Serie A would take any kind of European trophy nowadays.

  3. wait i just checked an they conceded against vitesse just before the intl break.Football italia is just so dumb

  4. guy said ” They haven’t conceded in 17 games across all competitions: 13 in Serie A and four in the Conference League.” Never said STRAIGHT those 17 games are all season long but Roma only since February started defending properly and that is why they are still in somewhat race with Juventus. If Roma can keep playing like they been recently they can make a run and maybe even beat Inter or Napoli. Roma controlled games against Lazio and Atalanta well and if they can keep playing like that they have a shot against Inter and Napoli because pressure will be on Napoli and Inter and Roma can sit deep and try to counter.. Juventus is struggling to take their chances and they have leaky defense so anything is still possible…
