Other Serie A clubs should cheer on Roma in the Europa Conference League Final against Feyenoord, as their victory could potentially send eight Italians into Europe next season.

The Giallorossi will face Feyenoord in Tirana on May 25 to decide who lifts the first edition of this trophy, which would also be the club’s first ever major European piece of silverware.

Roma are also currently battling for fifth place in Serie A and victory against Feyenoord would automatically secure their place in the 2022-23 Europa League.

This would have a knock-on effect for the other Serie A sides, as currently only fifth and sixth go directly into the Europa League group phase, while the team that finishes seventh will head for the Conference League play-offs.

If Roma were to win and finish in fifth or sixth place in Serie A, then nothing would change.

However, if the Giallorossi were to finish seventh and win the Europa League, there would be three Italian teams in that competition and nobody going to the Conference League.

The most intriguing combination would be Roma winning the Conference League and finishing eighth in Serie A.

In that scenario, fifth, sixth and Roma would go directly into the Europa League group stage, with the team in seventh also heading to the Conference League play-offs, therefore sending eight clubs into Europe.

The Champions League places for Milan, Inter, Napoli and Juventus have already been locked down.

4 thought on “Why Roma Conference League triumph could send eight teams into Europe”
  1. Yeah it’s a nice sentiment but Italian teams need a big reality check. It’s shameful that the richest clubs in Italy like Inter, Juventus and Milan do absolutely nothing in Europe. Relying on Roma to save Serie A seems a little desperate. Roma is going to do their best to win UECL and finish 5th just to prove that they’ve had a successful year and hopefully build momentum into next season.

  2. 😂😂😂😂😂 if you say it like that it makes this article sound silly

serie A needs to help its clubs be more competitive like this get good managers like Roma did
