According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma owners are in no hurry to extend José Mourinho’s contract as they are waiting to see the team’s results in the second part of the season.

Mourinho revealed last weekend that he’s ready to stay at the Stadio Olimpico but warned that he expects an offer shortly, given that his contract runs out in June 2024.

According to Tuesday’s printed edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, on page 16, however, the Giallorossi owners are in no rush to extend with the Portuguese coach.

The report claims the Friedkin family is waiting to see the results in the second part of the season.

Mourinho is aware that the primary target for the Giallorossi is to qualify for the Champions League, something he failed to accomplish in his first two seasons at the club, despite winning the Conference League in 2022 and reaching the Europa League Final in 2023.

According to Gazzetta, contract extensions for the coach and the players are not a priority now as Roma directors and owners want the team to remain focused on the upcoming Serie A fixtures and the possible Derby della Capitale in Coppa Italia against Lazio.

The Friedkins would happily extend with Mourinho, especially because most fans want him to stay. At the same time, however, they are waiting to see what happens in the next few games before offering a new deal to their coach.
