Despite being one of the most important figures in Leicester City’s history, Italian coach Claudio Ranier will support Roma against the Foxes tonight.

Ranieri’s Leicester City shocked the world of football in 2016 by winning the first Premier League title in their history. The Italian tactician was sacked the following season after a tough start to the campaign but has remained on excellent terms with fans and the Srivaddhanaprabha family.

However, Ranieri remains a long-time Roma fan and for this reason he’ll support the Giallorossi in the first leg of the Conference League semi-final tonight. The coach was born in the capital on October 20, 1951, and raised in the Testaccio neighbourhood, one of the most iconic of the city. Saying that he has a strong bond with the club and the town, is an understatement.

Ancelotti is a product of the Giallorossi academy and played six games at a senior level in the 1973-74 campaign before joining Catanzaro, Catania and Palermo. He has also coached the club twice: between 2009 and 2011 and at the end of the 2018-19 campaign.

During his last game as a Roma coach, in May 2019, he was reduced to tears by Roma ultras, who had unveiled a banner to thank him for taking an interim job in a difficult moment for the club.

“In a moment of need, you answered the call. Now, receive the appreciation of your people,” the banner read.

When La Gazzetta dello Sport asked him whether he’d support the Giallorossi against Leicester, he replied: “Of course, I am from Rome and a Roma fan.”
