Play was temporarily held up for close to 10 minutes in Friday evening’s Serie A fixture between Bologna and Hellas Verona at the Dall’Ara due to an early injury to the referee.

Rosario Abisso was the man with the whistle at the beginning of the Friday night game, but he pulled up after just three minutes of action and required touchline treatment from the Bologna medical staff.

He initially had his foot strapped up, as if to signal that he was willing to continue, but a few moments later it became clear that he was not going to be able to return to the pitch.

Fourth official Giacomo Camlone stepped up to take his place, and eventually took the necessary gadgets and accessories off Abisso on the touchline.

Play restarted with the scores at 0-0, but with 11 minutes on the clock. In the opening 15 minutes, the ball had only been in play for about six of them.
