Napoli had agreed to the terms of a deal with Celta Vigo for Gabri Veiga but ultimately lost out to Al-Ahli, who are now ready to complete the signing of the talent.

Last week, the Partenopei agreed to pay around €36m total for 21-year-old midfielder and were in the process of agreeing personal terms with the player. Everything looked set to move forward and the transfer was expected to be finalised.

Suddenly, reports emerged that Al-Ahli emerged to beat Napoli to Veiga, agreeing both a deal with Celta Vigo and contract terms with the Spanish talent, whose decision has drawn much ire from onlookers.

TMW suggests that bureaucratic issues were the source of the stall between Napoli and Veiga, as well as the 21-year-old’s high salary requests, which caused things to slow down.

This allowed Al-Ahli to swoop in, who were in the market for a new midfielder following Piotr Zielinski’s decision to stay in Campania.

Fabrizio Romano claims that Napoli and Celta Vigo agreed a deal on Friday last week but then things changed on the weekend, when the Partenopei tried to change the agreement, leading to the collapse.
