José Mourinho’s first Instagram post after Sunday’s loss to Napoli was a team picture inside the Stadio Maradona dressing room, where all his players looked very sad, but why did he do it?

The Giallorossi lost 2-1 in Naples last night, but Mourinho was happy with his players’ attitude and performance as he confirmed during his post-match interviews.

“If there are games where you can lose and emerge feeling more confident than before, it might seem a contradiction, but this was one of those games,” the Portuguese coach told DAZN.

“We are certainly the side that made Napoli suffer the most and made the stadium feel empty in an extraordinary atmosphere, as we scared them.”

This is why he posted a team picture after the game despite the defeat, something that coaches and players usually do after victories.

Mourinho went on to praise his players also on his Instagram post. “What a TEAM what a SPIRIT what a PERFORMANCE. Let’s go… See you on Wednesday at the Olimpico,” he said.

The Giallorossi remain in race for a Champions League placement being just one point below Milan and Atalanta.

On Wednesday, they host Cremonese at the Stadio Olimpico in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals.

Mourinho signed a three-year deal with Roma in 2021 and won the Conference League, the Giallorossi’s first title in 11 years, last season.
