Juventus and coach Thiago Motta are reportedly interested in striking a deal with Arsenal for former Spezia defender Jakub Kiwior. Here’s why the Bianconeri and their new boss fancy the 24-year-old Poland international:

Why Thiago Motta wants Kiwior at Juventus

Juventus have set their sights on Kiwior as an alternative to Bologna centre-back Riccardo Calafiori, who is close to agreeing a deal with Arsenal according to reports in Italy earlier this week.

Arsenal’s potential signing of the Italy international could trigger a chain-reaction among the defensive unit at the Emirates. If Calafiori were to be brought in, then Kiwior could potentially be available for a permanent transfer away from Arsenal this summer.

Importantly, there is also Motta’s personal approval. The pair worked well together during their time at Spezia and, in fact, it was Motta who signed the versatile defender back in 2021.

Motta even used Kiwior as a midfielder at certain points of his Spezia career due to his technical ability on the ball. He then became Spezia’s record sale in the transfer market, joining Arsenal for a reported €25m fee in January of 2023.

According to reports from Tuttosport, Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has also followed the young Gunner for several years, dating back to his time as a director with Napoli. Giuntoli had even tried to bring the defender to Naples around the time of his Arsenal signing.

The fact that Kiwior is already familiar with the environment and style of play in Serie A is also considered a bonus for Thiago Motta and the Juventus team.
