Milan decided to spend their entire half-time break on the touchline at the Stadio Dall’Ara, because it was cooler than going back into the changing room.
The Rossoneri were leading 2-0 over Bologna with goals from Olivier Giroud and Christian Pulisic when the referee blew his whistle.
Bologna went back down the tunnel as usual, but Stefano Pioli and his Milan players remained on the bench and touchline, with the coach giving his half-time team talk out in the open.
According to DAZN, the decision was made by Pioli and his staff because the air conditioning in the changing room at the Stadio Dall’Ara is insufficient to deal with the extreme heat of the evening.
Because of the temperature, all the Serie A games in the opening two rounds will be played in the evening, as it remains extremely hot in Italy in August.
It is an unusual approach for Milan, but one that is not against the rules.
