Why Milan star Theo Hernandez won’t play against Udinese

Stefano Pioli will have to do without the highly productive and influential left wing-back Theo Hernandez when Milan travel to the Dacia Arena to play Udinese on Saturday evening due to illness.

The French international was brought down by flu on the eve of the 27th round of Serie A fixtures.

Fode Ballo-Toure is expected to come in to replace the 25-year-old in Pioli’s starting XI for just his fourth Serie A appearance this campaign.

Hernandez has been a mainstay in the Rossoneri line-up over the last few seasons, having started in 23 of Milan’s 26 league matches so far this term.

He has missed one game through suspension and two through injury, although returned to the starting line-up the following game on both occasions.

The wing-back has also been an effective contributor to Milan’s goal tally this season, having scored three and assisted five since the start of 2022-23.

Hernandez’s illness is not expected to keep him out of Pioli’s plans for an extended period of time.
