Why Milan are not using their locker room at San Siro against Inter

Milan and Inter share San Siro and have their own separate locker rooms, but in the Champions League, the Rossoneri will not be in their usual habitat this evening.

The semi-final kicks off at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT).

This is the fifth time these local rivals have faced off this season in all competition, with the Rossoneri winning the first 3-2, then losing three on the bounce between Serie A, the Supercoppa Italiana and Champions League.

Although this is the ‘home’ stadium for both sides, the UEFA rules do give some small advantages to whoever is hosting the fixture.

The ‘home’ team has a greater share of the tickets to sell to their own fans, giving them a majority in terms of atmosphere.

A more curious quirk is that despite having their own locker room all decked out in their logos and colours, tonight Milan will not be getting changed in there.

Instead, they have to use the neutral ‘away’ locker room reserved for opponents at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

Inter had to do the same in the first leg, when they were technically the ‘visitors’ and could not use their usual dressing room.
