Cristian Zaccardo admits Milan and Juventus were among the clubs interested in Khvicha Kvaratskhelia but decided against signing the Napoli winger having already Rafael Leao and Federico Chiesa in their teams.

The Georgia international joined the Partenopei for €10m in the summer and has had a tremendous impact at the Stadio Maradona thanks to his five goals and three assists in 10 appearances across all competitions.

Juventus and Milan were among the clubs monitoring ‘Kvara’ but eventually decided not to go for the exciting 21-year-old.

Italy’s World Cup winner Cristian Zaccardo was one of the intermediaries of the deal in the summer and has confirmed that both Serie A giants had been following Kvaratskhelia.

“I’ve followed negotiations with Napoli and I have the feeling that the others [Milan and Juventus] considered themselves happy with Leao and Chiesa.”

Kvaratskhelia ‘s agent Mamuka Jugeli confirmed in August that the Bianconeri had been following the 21-year-old for a long time, but didn’t continue negotiations with his ex-club Rubin Kazan once Fabio Paratici left the club in the summer of 2021.

Chiesa is expected to be back at the end of the month or in January for Juventus following a knee injury suffered at the start of the year, while Milan star Leao has four goals and seven assists in nine games across all competitions this season.

  1. Unless he can play on the right I suspect this was an attempt at recovering for the loss of Leao to Chelsea, had they triggered the w5p mol release clause.

  2. Going to the 7/9 was always a non starter. PhD Max would never accept this type of player into the team.He is too young, got skills, can beat a man and the polar opposite of say a Roberto King Carlos Sandro or brick layer Danilo. Those two loyal students of square back understand the 10 commandments of the hexagon. Plus he did not want another Kulu on his hands.

  3. napoli the perfect club for him – to progress, napoli no doubt will play most attacks involving him and no doubt this guy will leave in 2 yrs time to a bigger club = if so 60m euros is minimum
