Walter Mazzarri’s talks with the Moroccan Football Federation have collapsed, making him no longer in the running to become the national team’s new head coach.

Alfredo Pedulla details how the 60-year-old Italian coach was seriously interested in taking over the Moroccan national team ahead of the upcoming World Cup in Qatar and negotiations went past the initial stages.

Ultimately, the deal fell through because of a few issues, starting with the budget; Mazzarri wouldn’t have been allowed to bring all his staff with him because there’s already a number of employees under contract.

The Moroccan Football Federation executives also wanted to put certain penalties and clauses in his contract, such as a possible separation if Morocco failed to progress past the group stage of the World Cup.

Mazzarri decided not to move forward with the idea and has now returned to Italy, where he’ll wait for other opportunities.
