Former Inter defender and world cup winner Marco Materazzi has revealed why he swore at Jose Mourinho after the Portuguese had left the Nerazzurri to become coach of Real Madrid in 2010.

Mourinho had departed his position as Inter coach shortly after leading his squad to winning the Champions League trophy after toppling Bayern Munich in the 2010 final at the Santiago Bernabeu.

In an interview with Italian Football TV, Materazzi admitted that he had been a fond admirer of Mourinho and had never previously been treated in the same way by any other former coach.

He told the media that: “Mourinho was special, he knew the names of all our children and our wives.

“Nobody else had ever done that for me. For me it was not a big surprise, but for my wife, when he met her and said “hello Daniela”, it was.”

Ultimately, Materazzi was left bitterly disappointed when Mourinho took up the opportunity to move to Spain to take over at the helm of Real Madrid.

Shortly after the Champions League final in 2010, Mourinho decided to make a swift exit from the Bernabeu and not travel back to Italy with the rest of the squad.

However, Materazzi spotted his coach on his way out of the stadium , prompting Mourinho to turn back and embrace his defender with a warm, yet tearful hug.

In his interview, Materazzi said that during his goodbye: “I told him “f**k you” because he was leaving me with Benitez.”
