Roberto Mancini announced his 31-man Italy squad for the upcoming friendlies against Albania and Austria, leaving out Juventus midfielder Manuel Locatelli.

The 24-year-old midfielder has not been having the best of times under Massimiliano Allegri this campaign, struggling to show his best as the Bianconeri try to work off their sluggish start to the season. Allegri suggested in a chat with journalist Mario Sconcerti recently that Locatelli would be his first option on the bench, suggesting that he doesn’t see the 24-year-old as a core starter.

As reported by TMW, Locatelli was not called up by Mancini for Italy’s upcoming friendlies against Albania and Austria, and it wasn’t due to an injury or tactical reasons. The reason is because of personal issues, something the Juventus midfielder spoke privately to the coach about recently.

Locatelli has been a core part of Mancini’s Italy squad recently and played in all but two of their games at Euro 2020 last year.

  1. All Allegri’s fault…Locatelli is not the only player he has ruined….snail pace football is enough to destroy any player’s career…RIP Loca!!!
