Why Mancini could punish Inter midfielder Sensi

According to reports in Italy, Roberto Mancini didn’t like Stefano Sensi’s behaviour during the international break and could leave him out of the squad in October.

Sensi was ruled out of Italy’s World Cup qualifying match against Lithuania yesterday as he had sustained a slight calf issue on Tuesday.

He returned to his club Inter the day after, but he reassured the Nerazzurri fans with an Instagram story where he wrote: ‘I am feeling ok guys, I have nothing, we’ll meet at the Stadium on Sunday. Forza Azzurri.’

According to Il Corriere della Sera and Calciomercato.com, Mancini is not impressed with the midfielder’s attitude and could omit him from the Azzurri squad for the next international break in October.

Speaking at his press conference after Italy’s 5-0 win over Lithuania last night, Mancini claimed he ‘had not read’ Sensi’s Instagram post and insisted the midfielder wasn’t eligible to play.

Sensi wasn’t the only player to leave the Azzurri training camp over injury concerns ahead of the match against Lithuania.

Federico Chiesa, Nicolò Zaniolo, Lorenzo Pellegrini, Marco Verratti, Emerson Palmieri, Ciro Immobile and Lorenzo Insigne also returned to their clubs before yesterday’s match.
