La Gazzetta dello Sport reports Lille star Jonathan David is Milan‘s priority target for January adding that the French club can’t increase the striker’s price tag.
Milan is reportedly ready to sign a new centre forward in the January transfer window and according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Canadian striker David is the highest name on the Rossoneri’s agenda.
Qualifying for the Champions League Round of 16 would give Milan more financial resources to sign the 23-year-old in January, but according to Gazzetta, the Rossoneri must expect to pay circa €40m to secure his signature.
David’s price tag has decreased over the last few months. He was worth over €60m last season when he netted 24 times in 37 matches. However, with a contract expiring in June 2025 and just two goals scored in 12 appearances this term, Lille have been forced to decrease his price to €40m and according to Gazzetta, Milan will make an attempt to sign him in less than two months especially because Lille will further lower their demands.
Milan are planning to sign David in January, so he can learn from Olivier Giroud in the second part of the season and become Milan’s starting striker in 2024-25.
Giroud was sent off in Milan’s last Serie A game against Lecce and was banned for two games, so Luka Jovic or Noah Okafor will replace the Frenchman against Fiorentina and Frosinone.
