Matias Soule is expected to formally complete his transfer from Juventus to Roma at the start of next week, but Premier League side Leicester City had been close to agreeing a deal with the Old Lady.

Here’s why the Foxes missed out on a deal for one of Serie A’s most exciting prospects.

How Roma beat Leicester to Soule signing

Reports earlier in the week confirmed that Roma had reached an agreement with Juventus over a €30m fee for Soule, which includes add-ons. Specifically, the Giallorossi offer was made up of €26m up front and €4m in bonuses.

The young Argentine is set to put pen to paper on a five-year contract at the Stadio Olimpico.

Soule himself had made it clear to the Juventus management that he was only interested in a move to Roma, and that he had no interest in moving to England at this stage.

The situation led Juventus to give the Next Gen graduate an ultimatum, instructing him to either accept a reasonable offer, or be condemned to training with the reserve team for the foreseeable future.

The youngster held his own, though, and made it clear that he would only really be willing to accept an offer from the Giallorossi.
