Nicolo Rovella has impressed with his performances for Lazio since joining from Juventus in the summer, which has led to questions as to why the Bianconeri decided to let the youngster leave without much fuss.
The 21-year-old officially joined Lazio on a two-year loan deal in August, with an option to buy for a fee of €18m plus bonuses. He had previously enjoyed loan spells with Monza in 2022-23 and Genoa the season before that.
Despite struggling with muscular issues at the beginning of the 2023-24 campaign, Rovella is beginning to show why Lazio were so keen to snap him up.
In his most recent appearance against Torino, Rovella covered more ground than any other player on the pitch (13.68km), completed 93% of his passes and also registered six ball recoveries in what can only be described as a complete midfield performance.
Some argue that Rovella could currently do a job for his former side, who have so far relied on the likes of Manuel Locatelli and Nicolo Fagioli to sit at the base of midfield.
However, recent reports from Calciomercato.com claim that Juventus’ decision to let Rovella leave this summer was based almost entirely on financial motives rather than for tactical or technical reasons.
The report reiterates that Massimiliano Allegri is currently lacking a player of Rovella’s characteristics, but also warns that only time will tell if the decision to let him leave proves to be sensible or not.
