Inter and Cremonese were both furious with the referees after goals against Monza and Juventus were chalked off by a hasty whistle that meant VAR could not intervene either.

Simone Inzaghi vented his fury at Juan Luca Sacchi following the 2-2 draw with Monza at the U-Power Stadium last night.

The Nerazzurri thought they had gone 3-1 up when Francesco Acerbi nodded in a Kristjan Asllani free kick, but the whistle had already been blown for a Roberto Gagliardini ‘foul’ on Pablo Mari.

However, replays showed that Pablo Mari in fact tripped up over the legs of his Monza teammate and there was no foul.

Because the referee did not wait a few seconds to let the move play out, it was not a disallowed goal and therefore VAR could not intervene to confirm there was no foul.

A similar incident occurred midweek in Cremonese’s 1-0 defeat to Juventus, when Giovanni Ayroldi blew the whistle early for what he thought was a Cyriel Dessers push.

Again, had he waited a few seconds, the Video Assistant Referee could’ve allowed him to check the footage and correct his original decision.

The most famous error of this type in Serie A was last season, made even worse by the fact the referee should’ve played the advantage for Milan rather than blow the whistle for a free kick in their favour against Spezia.

Junior Messias therefore put the ball in the net when play had already been stopped and there was nothing VAR could do.

Moments later, Spezia ran up the other end and scored to win the game, leaving referee Marco Serra distraught at his own huge mistake.

  1. The “writers” on this site are over the top biased. Fanatics writing lies so they can sleep better at night. This site has become a caricature of itself.
