The Juventus points penalty means Inter will be mathematically qualified for the Champions League if they get at least a draw against Atalanta.

The Serie A table has been revolutionised this evening with the Federal Court of Appeal confirming a 10-point penalty for the Bianconeri, sending them from second place on 69 points to seventh on 59.

As a knock-on effect, Lazio have secured their place in the top four and Inter could follow suit this weekend.

A draw in the head-to-head with sixth-placed Atalanta would be sufficient to guarantee qualification for the Champions League in 2023-24.

This is because if Atalanta and Inter were to finish level on points, Simone Inzaghi’s men have the superior head-to-head record thanks to a 3-2 victory in Bergamo back in November.

Inter could even afford to lose to Atalanta by one clear goal and still secure a top four spot with only a draw away to Torino in the final match of the season.

That’s because the head-to-head record would be identical in that case, but Inter have a much better goal difference overall.

It is also worth noting that if Inter, Milan and Atalanta were to all finish on the same number of points, a mini-table would be drawn up of their head-to-head records, leaving La Dea at the bottom.

  1. Look really nice scenario for us. We must be very bad to lose both matches. I believe in 2 draws, knowing we are distracted by 2 finals.
