Inter President Massimo Moratti has revealed why his club failed to sign new Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba.

The French teenager, still just 19, joined the Old Lady in the summer on a free transfer after his contract at Manchester United expired.

“He really does seem like a good player,” Moratti told La Stampa. “We were following him too, but we had an agreement with Manchester United – to not negotiate with players at the end of their deals.

“That was a request from Sir Alex Ferguson and we pulled out of the race. We perhaps made a mistake, but we can’t sign everyone.”

Juventus entertain Inter in Serie A on Saturday, but Moratti won’t be present at the Juventus Stadium in Turin despite an invitation from opposite number Andrea Agnelli.

“I was thinking about going,” he added. “I spoke to Andrea, but I don’t want to create any more tension or pressure.

“I know it is sad, but it’s still not time for me to come to Turin. I will sooner or later…”

Moratti, whose club are great rivals of Juve, also passed an interesting judgement on the football of Barcelona.

“They’re quite boring to watch, they’d be totally boring without Lionel Messi,” he added. “I like fast football – three passes and a shot on goal.”
