There has still been no significant progress in the transfer saga involving Andre Onana, Manchester United and his current club Inter, as the Nerazzurri have still not received a formal offer for the Cameroonian international from the Premier League giants.

It is no secret that Erik ten Hag and Man United are in the market for a goalkeeper, with the current no.1 David De Gea still yet to sign a new contract, and now the Spaniard looks increasingly likely to leave Old Trafford after a 12-year stay.

For several weeks, it has been reported that United are fond admirers of Inter’s Onana, but according to director Beppe Marotta via Sky Sport Italia, Inter are yet to receive a formal offer.

Recent reports have suggested that Man United have begun to look elsewhere for the heir to De Gea’s throne, with Feyenoord’s Justin Bijlow and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Kevin Trapp among the names of possible alternatives.

Calciomercato details how Inter’s will not sell for anything under a guaranteed €50m plus another €10m in various add-ons and bonuses.

A potential sale of Onana would represent a substantial and quick-turnaround profit given that the player arrived for free last summer, but his departure would also cause Inter a goalkeeping headache of their own.

With Samir Handanovic now 38 years of age, and not having signed a contract renewal, Inter would certainly need to bring in a new ‘keeper themselves.

Calciomercato reports that Guglielmo Vicario was one who was being looked at by the decision makers at Inter, but after his €20m move to Tottenham, that opportunity is obviously no longer possible.

The favourite at present, according to Calciomercato, is Shakhtar Donetsk’s 21-year-old stopper Anatoly Trubin, a player who would likely benefit from having a senior figure such as Handanovic in the dressing room.

The reality is that the suitable options on the goalkeeping market are few and far between and bringing in an improvement on Onana for a reasonable price is a monumental task.

That said, Inter are still reportedly willing to listen to proposals and a sale is still very much on the cards if the right offer were to come in.
