Amid all the disallowed goals, there were also calls for Federico Gatti to face punishment for a clash with Milan Djuric during the Juventus win over Verona.

The focus was taken by the incidents seeing two Moise Kean goals disallowed, the first for a millimetrical offside, the second for an arm in the face of Marco Davide Faraoni.

There was a moment when Juve defender Gatti seemed to strike Djuric in the chest, but the referee took no action and neither did VAR.

DAZN pundit and former referee Luca Marelli explained the situation.

“In these incidents you must see if the hand is open or if it is closed into a fist. If it is a fist, then the desire was to hit the opponent, and in this case Gatti had a fist. He intended to hit Djuric.

“In my view, VAR considered it to be an incident between a yellow and a red card, so somewhere between unsporting conduct and violent conduct.

“I consider that to be violent conduct, but the blow was between shoulder and chest, so perhaps that is why there was no on-field review.”

Next weekend the audio from the conversation between VAR and the referee will be released to DAZN to clarify what was discussed.

VAR can only intervene in these situations for a straight red card, they cannot recommend a review for a bookable offence, so there is a certain threshold to be met.
