The Biancoceleste midfielder batted the free kick that took a deflection of his teammate, but Serie A has decided to give Milinkovic-Savic the goal.

Sky Sport Italia reports the goal would have been given to Escalante, had his touch been intentional.

The broadcaster explained the rule in point 2A of the Lega Serie A regulations, ‘says that if a direct shot is unintentionally deflected by a teammate, the goal must be awarded to the player who took the shot’.

After analysing the video, the League has established that the Serbians effort was on target and thus the Spaniard’s touch was accidental.

Milinkovic has thus scored five times in Serie A this term, appearing 19 times with the Aquile.
