Udinese boss Francescio Guidolin has explained why Serie A top scorer German Denis was allowed to join Atalanta.

The Argentine international, formerly of Napoli, moved to the Bergamo club in the summer on a one-year loan deal.

Denis has responded with nine Serie A goals in 11 games, one more strike than Udinese captain Antonio Di Natale.

“Denis expressed his desire to leave so that he could join a club that could offer him playing time,” Guidolin noted.

“We couldn’t guarantee him a first team shirt here with us and, after talking about things in a calm and honest manner, we decided to let him go.

“I only have good things to say about him. He gave us a massive helping hand last season, one which began with an injury for him.

“At the start of this season we evaluated everything and made the decision that we did.”
