La Gazzetta dello Sport explains the real reasons why Antonio Conte was furious with referee Fabio Maresca and why he shouted: ‘It’s always you. Even in the VAR.’

Both Conte and Oriali saw red in Inter’s 0-0 away draw at Udinese with the Nerazzurri who could face a lengthy ban.

“We had a disagreement over the amount of stoppages awarded,” Conte explained Sky Sport Italia.

“The referee booked me and then chose to send me off. I thought four minutes weren’t enough, in the circumstances. Then the referee makes his decisions and we have to accept them, even if we do not agree with those decisions.”

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, however, there are two main reasons why Conte was furious with the match official.

First of all, he thought Udinese midfielder Tolgay Arslan should have been sent off in the first half for a foul on Romelu Lukaku that would cost him his second booking.

Secondly, Conte didn’t like Maresca’s refereeing, with too many fouls that caused a very “fragmented game”, especially in the second half.

“It’s always you, Maresca. It’s always you. Even in the VAR, it’s always you, Maresca. Well done, Maresca,” Conte shouted sarcastically after being sent off.

The coach remembered Maresca was the VAR Referee of Parma-Inter back in October.

The Nerazzurri picked up a 2-2 draw and both him and Beppe Marotta complained at the end of the match for a “clear and obvious penalty.” that was not awarded to Inter.
