Sky Sport Italia’s transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio clarifies that Antonio Conte has put contract talks with Tottenham on hold, but feels the Italian tactician will leave at the end of the season.

Di Marzio had made headlines on Sunday morning, saying that he thought Conte would leave Tottenham at the end of the season.

He has now clarified the coach’s position in North London claiming that he has put new contract talks on hold due to familiar reasons.

Conte signed an 18-month deal with the Premier League side in November 2021, so his contract expires on June 30, 2023.

He has recently revealed, in an interview with the Guardian, that he’s been facing personal difficulties this season. It is more than understandable given that three of his closest friends, Sinisa Mihajlovic, Gianpiero Ventrone and Gianluca Vialli died in the last few months.

“For sure, this season is a difficult season from a personal aspect. To lose in such a short time three people that I knew very well was not simple. When this situation happens it brings you to have important reflections,” he said.

“Many times we think and we give a lot of importance to our work and we forget the family. We forget that we need to have more time for us. This season is making me to have an important reflection on my future.”

Di Marzio believes that, given the circumstances, Conte will leave Tottenham at the end of the season.

Conte has been linked with a return to Juventus, but Massimiliano Allegri is under contract until 2025 and the Bianconeri are facing an uncertain future following a 15-point deduction in Serie A, which could lead to a ban from European competitions.
