Spanish sources claim Chelsea remain interested in Milan star Rafael Leao for next season, but the 24-year-old is not expected to join a club that won’t play in the Champions League.

The Blues had been linked with a move for the Portuguese forward in 2022 but failed to match his €150m release clause in the final days of the summer transfer window.

Now, according to Fichajes, Mauricio Pochettino’s side remain keen on the Portuguese forward ahead of the 2024 summer transfer window. However, the Blues will predictably fail to qualify for the Champions League this term so it’s unlikely that a move to Stamford Bridge will tempt Leao.

The Portuguese ace has also been linked with Barcelona and PSG.

Leao signed a new contract until 2028 last year and his release clause has raised to €175m.

Football Italia transfer expert Matteo Moretto exclusively reported in January that the Rossoneri won’t sell Leao for less than his release clause at the end of the season.

Leao, 24, has scored eight goals and delivered eight assists in 33 appearances across all competitions this season.
