Rumours whispering out from Catalonia suggest that Barcelona could bring back Samuel Umtiti from his loan spell at Lecce, but this looks unlikely, reports detail.

The 28-year-old French centre back left the Blaugrana for the newly promoted side in the summer, looking for a club where he’ll have the space to re-discover his form after a difficult few years with Catalonia. Umtiti received a warm welcome from the Lecce faithful and he’s made a handful of appearances this season for the club, slowly building up his match fitness.

As detailed by Sport, Gerard Pique’s shock decision to retire has seen some suggest that Barcelona could recall Umtiti from his loan spell with Lecce early in order to shore up their backline, but this doesn’t appear likely.

The Blaugrana would reportedly prefer the Frenchman to make the most of his time in Italy and gain some much needed match fitness following a tough few years, dominated by various injuries.

The 2018 World Cup winner is contracted to Barcelona until 2026 and will return to Catalonia next summer.
