According to reports in Italy, Andrea Pirlo has not been contacted by Barcelona with Xavi the leading candidate to take over at the Nou Camp.
The La Liga giants sacked Ronald Koeman after their 1-0 loss against Rayo Vallecano last night and Xavi, a Barcelona legend, is reportedly the No.1 candidate to replace the Dutch tactician.
Xavi is currently under contract with Al Sadd, but contacts between the two clubs have already begun, reports Calciomercato.com.
Laporta is determined to choose the former midfielder, given his strong bond with the club. Xavi spent almost his entire playing career at Barcelona and knows everything about the Catalans.
Pirlo was one of the coaches linked with the job at the Nou Camp, but the former Maestro could be snubbed due to his limited experience on the bench.
His season in the Juventus dug-out was the first and last one as a professional coach.
The 2006 Italy World Cup winner was sacked last summer. He had won the Coppa Italia and the Italian Super Cup, but only managed a top-four finish in Serie A.
According to the report, Laporta is an admirer of Pirlo, but he hasn’t contacted him yet. He may do it over the next few days, but only if negotiations with Al Sadd over Xavi collapse.

Pirlo has more experience if you ask me. One season of coaching in Serie A is worth 10 seasons of coaching in Qatar.
They will pick Xavi for the same reason Juve had picked Pirlo
