Barcelona were left furious following their 1-0 Champions League defeat to Inter, believing that they should’ve been awarded a penalty after an apparent handball by Denzel Dumfries.

The match between the Nerazzurri and the Blaugrana was filled with drama last night, with both sides frustrated at referee Slavko Vincic at various points in the game, although the latter were left more aggrieved after three incidents in particular – Pedri’s disallowed goal, a seemingly dangerous challenge from Hakan Calhanoglu and Dumfries’ apparent handball in the penalty area.

SportMediaset suggests that Barcelona were not given a penalty due to the fact that the apparent handball wasn’t clear on the VAR cameras, leaving the officials in doubt.

After the match, a clip surfaced on Spanish TV showing a different angle, where the ball did seem to clearly strike the Inter full back’s hand, although there are still disagreements regarding whether or not the ball first deflected off the player’s head, or if that even matters at all.

Barcelona were left furious after the game and are reportedly set to report referee Vincic to UEFA.

8 thought on “Why Barcelona weren’t given a penalty after Dumfries handball”
  1. if the officials felt that the ball struck Dumfries head first then struck his own hand, it is not a handball

  2. If you have a system that doesn’t provide a view from all angles, then it lacks credibility. VAR was brought in specifically to solve such issues.

  3. It’s funny that the spanish tv pundits has more camera angle than the referee. They punish every club for breaching ffp, and take their money straight to their pockets but can not upgrade the facilities on the pitch

  4. I wonder a whole almighty champhions league does not have a better camera. Though am very angry.
