There are suggestions Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could leave Chelsea to join Milan this summer, a switch that would allow them to boost their numbers of academy products in the squad.
The 33-year-old started his career in France and moved to Italy in January 2007 to be part of the Rossoneri youth academy, aged 17.
He remained on their books until the sale to Saint-Etienne in 2012 for just €1.8m, having been loaned to Dijon, LOSC and Monaco.
The Gabon international has since represented Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal and Barcelona before his €12m transfer to Chelsea in September 2022.
Aubameyang’s contract only runs to June 2024 and he was left out of Chelsea’s Champions League squad list following the influx of new January signings.
La Gazzetta dello Sport notes that the player was spotted spending the weekend in Milan with his family, perhaps a hint as to his future, as well as visiting some old haunts.
His move to Chelsea went wrong very quickly, as he came there to reunite with his former Borussia Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel, who was promptly sacked a week later.
Bringing Aubameyang back to San Siro would also suit Milan because they have very few academy products in the squad and he would fit that bill, albeit with a very long gap between his time at Milanello and the present.
