There are mixed reports in Italy on whether Milan will be able to sign Clement Lenglet on loan from Barcelona, as it requires more than just Aston Villa to let him leave early.

The defender is increasingly frustrated at the lack of playing time in the Premier League, having made only five appearances this season.

Multiple sources including La Gazzetta dello Sport and Fabrizio Romano note that Lenglet is pushing to leave Aston Villa in January and instead make the move to Milan.

However, there are quite a few obstacles in the way, the first being that Aston Villa don’t want to let him go mid-season after agreeing the full loan.

Another issue raised by Sportitalia transfer expert Alfred Pedullà is that Lenglet’s salary is too high for the Rossoneri and they would need Barcelona to pay a portion of it during his stay at San Siro.

The 28-year-old was purchased from Sevilla in 2018 for €35.9m, but has fallen by the wayside in recent years with loan spells at Tottenham and now Aston Villa.
