Why Arthur extended Juventus contract before joining Fiorentina on loan

Juventus midfielder Arthur extended his contract with the Bianconeri before joining Fiorentina on loan to lower his amortised cost and let the two clubs split his salary for 2023-24.

Arthur has moved to the Stadio Franchi on an initial loan deal with an option to buy for €20m. Fiorentina will pay €2m for his one-year loan plus potential €2m add-ons.

The Brazilian signed a contract extension until 2026 with the Old Lady before joining Fiorentina.

Tuttosport explains why Arthur signed a new deal with the Bianconeri before joining his new club.

The Brazilian midfielder has agreed to spread his €6.5m-a-year salary, including add-ons, onto a longer deal and by doing that, Juventus will lower his amortised cost and can equally split his salary with Fiorentina for 2023-24.

Arthur was not part of Massimiliano Allegri’s plans after returning from a one-year loan spell at Liverpool.

The ex-Barcelona midfielder had been training separately from the group at Continassa alongside other players on the market, such as Leonardo Bonucci and Denis Zakaria.
