Lorenzo Insigne is likely to join Toronto FC as a free agent and there have been plenty of reactions on social media to comment on the Italy international’s choice.
According to SportMediaset, the 30-year-old has already decided to move to Canada at the end of the season.
His current deal with Napoli expires in June and the Partenopei have not improved their contract extension offer, which is still around €3.5m-a-year, less than Insigne’s current €5m-a-year salary.
On the other hand, Toronto FC have offered him a contract above €9m per season. According to Sky Sport Italia, the offer on the table is €11.5m plus €4.5m add-ons.
Former Toronto FC star Sebastian Giovinco has warned his compatriot that he will fall off the radar in the MLS, even if a spell in Toronto is something that he would ‘suggest to everyone.’
Social media users have been commenting massively on Insigne’s likely decision to leave Napoli to move to Canada, where he would begin a new chapter of his career. Most Napoli supporters are not impressed by his choice, while those of Toronto FC seem to be beyond excited.
Why is Lorenzo insigne going to Toronto😫. He’s just too good to go there.#Insigne #TorontoFC

Is he a bad person? Of course not, he cashes in on a great career. Is he a bad player? Obviously not. If he goes, he goes with dignity and respect and wish him all the best. If he stays, we move forward #ForzaNapoliSempre #Insigne

Would be awesome to see #Insigne & #Belotti playing in the #MLS with #TorontoFC
To get two quality European players around 28-30 years of age is where the #ALeague should aspire to be in a few years.
It takes money though.. a lot which we don’t have in Aus ⚽️

It’s quite logical that Lorenzo #Insigne should accept the offer from #TFCLive. Someone who offers you close to 3 times on what your earning now it would be mad to reject it. Insigne is 31 in June and is thinking about the last big contract 1/2

This deal is looking more and more likely. #Insigne https://t.co/3qeDEq2ZBW

cannot fathom that #Insigne who becomes a free agent by next transfer window has agreed to sign for torronto fc in the prime of his career from Napoli after spending most of his career for the Italian giants. No idea why he rejected offers from other big clubs. He is just 30!😔 pic.twitter.com/jFZHypc83e

If #Insigne does go to @TorontoFC, is he the best player the @MLS has ever signed? 🧐 pic.twitter.com/gb9HrJ0XT7

I’m a huge #Insigne fan, but paying up to $15 mil for Lore is not only outrageous but harmful for the rest of the league.
That being said, got go paid Insigne!!! In bocca al lupo! https://t.co/y2nwyolYMJ

Loser
One of the best in game. All haters are jealous and wish they had him. He wore #10 with italy and won the euro nuff said. Not even delpiero was good after euro 2000 and was stripped of #10 and benched. All overpaid for oshimen who is worthless and it’s a $$$ game.
Message to Insigne, take the money and move to Toronto. The city has a large Italian community that loves the game and are excited to see you play. The city and the team show great respect to their players. I hope you Giovanco get to play together. That will be exciting soccer.
