Arsenal are in talks to sign Dusan Vlahovic and Arthur but are struggling to finalise both deals for different reasons.

Vlahovic, 21, is the Gunners’ main target to strengthen their attacking department and Football Italia understands Fiorentina are open to selling their star in January.

This is because Vlahovic won’t sign a contract extension with the Tuscans with his current €800,000-a-year deal expiring in 2023.

Vlahovic has rejected a €4m-a-year deal and has demanded a salary in the region of €8m per season.

According to multiple reports, Arsenal have offered €55-60m plus Lucas Torreira, who is currently on loan at Fiorentina and although the Tuscans would be open to accepting the offer, Vlahovic doesn’t want to leave the Stadio Artemio Franchi until the end of the season.

“Only God knows what will happen in the next period,” he said at the beginning of January.

“My desire is to take Fiorentina to Europe, because we haven’t been in Europe for a long time. We’ll see.”

The Premier League side is also struggling to strike a deal to get Juventus midfielder Arthur on loan, but for a different reason.

The player is open to moving to North London until June and has already agreed personal terms with the Gunners.

However, Juventus have put negotiations on hold and are not willing to let Arthur leave on a temporary basis unless Arsenal add an option to buy in the deal.

The Serie A giants also need to sign a replacement. The Bianconeri are in talks with Denis Zakaria, who runs out of his contract with Borussia Monchengladbach in June, and consider Nicolò Rovella’s return from his loan spell at Genoa.

Arthur played 75 minutes in Juventus’ 4-1 win in Coppa Italia against Sampdoria yesterday night.

8 thought on “Why are Arsenal struggling to sign Arthur and Vlahovic?”
  1. Are they even in the race for Vlahovic ? He’s going to another team and the deal is in place – the question becomes whether it will be done in January or July !

  2. There are teams that people like even if they aren’t a supporter .Arsenal ain’t one of them .They have no abition for greatness. FA Cup would be their biggest acheivement in recent Years. Doesn’t look like a step up going their for any rising star

  3. Arsenal lost the change to sign Locatelli because he wanted to go to Juve and they will probably lose Velahovic too because he wants to join Juve too.
So Arsenal should first ask themselves why Players don’t want to join them?
I don’t mean any offence to Arsenal as reputable and popular team , but I guess they don’t have the upper hand when it comes to alluring Serie A players. Juve simply has the authority there even though it has financial problems.

  4. Vlahovic to Arsenal? Unlikely, as he’ll want somewhere much better. Pity he probably won’t be staying in Serie A either.

Juve should drive Arthur to London with Ramsey in the boot.
