Roma included Nicolo Zaniolo in their Europa League squad list, but the inclusion isn’t a sign of change in the Italian capital.

The 23-year-old Italian forward has been entirely excluded from the Giallorossi project by coach Jose Mourinho following his antics in the January transfer window.

Despite an uninspiring first half of the season, which frustrated fans and prompted the coach to come to his defence, Zaniolo tried to force through a move to Milan, sitting out for two games and rejecting an offer from Bournemouth.

When it became clear that he wouldn’t be heading to the Lombardy capital, the forward tried to accept the Cherries’ bid, only to be told it had been withdrawn.

As highlighted by Il Messaggero, Zaniolo was included in Roma’s Europa League squad registration list, but it was only a formal gesture by the club and doesn’t change his future in the Italian capital.

The Giallorossi still consider the 23-year-old to be outside of Mourinho’s project and feel his apology arrived far too late. Because the club still want to secure around €30m from Zaniolo’s sale in the summer, he’ll likely receive some piecemeal minutes in the second half of this season.
