Clement Turpin is in charge of Atalanta’s opening Champions League game against Villareal, so Football Italia takes a closer look at who the French referee is.

Turpin officiated his first Ligue 1 match in 2008 and became an international referee one year later. He was named for his first Champions League game in 2014, at the age of 27.

He was one of the referees at UEFA Euro 2016, the Olympic Games, and was the fourth official in the 2018 Champions League Final between Real Madrid and Liverpool.

This is the first time the French official oversees an Atalanta match. He was appointed for three Roma and Inter matches, two of Juventus, Napoli and Lazio and one of Milan and Udinese.

Italian clubs have won six matches out of 14 with Turpin in charge, drawing two and losing five.

He officiated the Azzurri twice, in a 3-0 win against Uruguay in a friendly encounter in 2017 and a 2-0 victory against Poland in the UEFA Nations League in November last year.
