Born in Østervrå, a small town in North Denmark, Maehle comes from the academy of Aalborg with whom he made his senior debut in 2016. He played 27 games in all competitions before joining Genk the following summer for €1m.
He won Belgium’s Pro League in the 2018-19 campaign when he scored three goals and provided just as many assists in 39 games between regular season and playoffs.
The 23-year-old also won the second Belgian Supercup in the club’s history in 2019.
In that same year, he faced Napoli and Liverpool in the Champions League group stage and played the U21 European Championship organized in Italy with his national team.
He has seven caps and two goals to his name with Denmark U21 and made his debut with the senior squad against Belgium in September 2020. He now has one goal in six appearances with Denmark senior team.
During the U21 European Championship, he scored two goals against Austria and provided one assist against Serbia, playing as left-back.
His favourite position, however, is the opposite one, where Hans Hateboer is La Dea’s regular starter.
According to Goal.com, Southampton were also interested in securing his services, but Maehle is now on the verge of joining La Dea on a permanent €10m deal.
