Polish referee Szymon Marciniak has been assigned to tonight’s Champions League game between Manchester United and Atalanta, so we take a look at the official.

The 40-year-old businessman has already officiated one Italian club in the tournament this season, overseeing Milan’s 3-2 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on September 15.

He has not worked with Atalanta before, but his record with Italian sides at club and international level is of 10 victories, five draws and seven defeats.

Marciniak sent off two Roma players, Daniele De Rossi and Emerson, during a 3-0 home defeat to FC Porto in August 2016.

His record with English teams is of seven wins, one draw and only four losses.

The only previous Manchester United match on his CV is a 1-0 Champions League home victory over CSKA Moscow in November 2015.

Marciniak is prone to pointing to the spot, as in 28 Champions League matches, he has awarded 12 penalties, along with four red cards and 111 yellows.
