German referee Felix Brych was the match official when Italy played Spain in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers and will oversee the semi-final at Wembley on Tuesday night.

The match at Wembley kicks off at 20.00 UK time.

The 45-year-old referee is not a lightweight and has appeared in several big games between European Championship, World Cups, Champions League fixtures and of course in the German Bundesliga.

Brych was in charge of the Champions League Final between Juventus and Real Madrid, when Los Blancos picked up the trophy with a 4-1 win at Millennium Stadium in Wales.

Italy and Spain have faced each other 37 times and it’s a classic game for us spectators, but it will not be a completely new experience for the man at the whistle either.

Brych, who directed the quarter-final between England and Ukraine, has been chose to oversee the big game between Roberto Mancini and Luis Enrique at Wembley.

The veteran was in charge on October 6, when the two teams met in the the second game of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

Giampiero Ventura’s Azzurri managed to pick up a draw from La Furia Roja, thanks to a penalty goal from Daniele De Rossi, but eventually finished second in the group behind Spain, who won 3-0 in the return leg – the last time the two sides have met.

Brych made his debut in the Bundesliga in 2004, in a 1-1 draw between Hertha Berlin and Mainz 05, and became a FIFA referee in 2007.
