Juventus were the clear winners in Serie A in the January 2022 transfer window, but a few other clubs also had an impressive month on the market.
The Bianconeri had a masterful month in the transfer window, starting with the €80m statement signing of Dusan Vlahovic from Fiorentina. The hope in Turin is that the Serbian star will be the man to lead the post-Cristiano Ronaldo era at Juventus. The arrival of Denis Zakaria from Borussia Monchengladbach was also a good move to strengthen Allegri’s midfield.
It wasn’t only incoming moves that impressed in Turin, as Juventus also did well in their outgoing market, selling Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur to Antonio Conte’s Tottenham. Shipping off Aaron Ramsey to Rangers was also important as they worked to lighten up their wage bill.
Inter were the next best performers in this month’s market in Italy, picking up Atalanta’s Robin Gosens as a long-term replacement for Ivan Perisic on the left and Felipe Caicedo as a backup striker to help secure this season’s Scudetto. Two important deals which strengthen Simone Inzaghi’s squad. Renewing Marcelo Brozovic’s contract was also key.
Despite what it may seem, Fiorentina also performed well this month. Once they realised it would be impossible to keep Vlahovic, they secured a super price from Juventus for his signature, allowing them to comfortably sign reinforcements in Lille’s Jonathan Ikoné, FC Basel’s Arthur Cabral and Hertha Berlin’s Krzysztof Piątek.
Finally, the surprise inclusion Salernitana. The Serie A strugglers brought in nine players this month, signing proven players like Luigi Sepe, Federico Fazio, Simone Verdi and Ivan Radovanovic, as well as talents like Emil Bohinen and Radu Dragusin, as they look to fight for their spot in the Italian topflight. An important month for the Campania side, and one that may prove vital as they scrap to escape the relegation zone.
Juve without question.
Some of the others made some interesting singings: Gosens, Boga, Cabral, Sensi, Ricci, Nsame, Cuisanse.
Give Genoa some credit. The whole team was dreadful and now it’s gone. Pouf. That’s what you call a little magic trick.
Juve had a great transfer window, especially for winter! Beside obvious Vlahovic deal, shipping Ramsey out was a great deal. Also Kulu can develop under Conte for a better player and potentially return to help the team, so congrats!
Fiorentina also performed well this month(…)sign reinforcements (…)and Hertha Berlin’s Krzysztof Piątek.
