La Gazzetta dello Sport analysed Milan’s shirt sales, discovering which players were the most popular and with who.

The Rossoneri have grown tremendously over the last four years, emerging from the troubled Li Yonghong era and flouring under Elliott Management, who sold the club to Gerry Cardinale and RedBird earlier this year. Milan have returned to the upper echelons of Italian football and the new owners are continuing to work hard to build the club’s brand and commercial opportunities.

As detailed by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the most popular player to have on the back of a Milan shirt is Sandro Tonali, with 28% of sales dedicated to the Italian midfielder. Behind him is Zlatan Ibrahimovic with 19% and Rafael Leao with 15%. In fourth place is Theo Hernandez with 13% and in fifth is Charles De Ketelaere with 7%.

The Swedish striker’s shirts are the most sold in the more tourist focused shops at the Central Station and in San Babila, whilst Leao is the most popular for boys alongside De Ketelaere.

The shirts of Fodé Ballo-Touré and Brahim Diaz both spiked after their goals against Empoli and Juventus.

The commercial figures continue to impress; the Rossoneri have already sold more shirts online this season than they did for the whole of the last campaign. The white shirt has proven incredibly popular and the purple goalkeeper’s shirt, which hasn’t been used yet this season, has already sold out.

  1. No Suprise on Tonali! How can a real Milan fan not love this kid. Watching that Spezia game one thing was clear. When Sandro came on, he wasn’t coming off that pitch without 3 points!
