Despite currently having the best defensive record of any club in Europe’s top five divisions, Inter appear to be on the lookout for a future heir to Yann Sommer’s throne in goal, as three stoppers are reportedly of interest, two of whom have received visits from Samir Handanovic in recent weeks.

Handanovic, who hung up his gloves at the end of the 2022-23 season after 11 seasons in San Siro, has been working as a goalkeeping scout for Inter since the winter of 2023.

The former Nerazzurri captain was in the stands for Monza’s 4-1 home loss to Daniele De Rossi’s Inter alongside a collection of familiar faces, including Walter Samuel and Vincnenzo Montella.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Handanovic was in town for a closer look at Monza’s goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio, who has also been attracting interest from Juventus according to reports elsewhere.

Di Gregorio is currently valued in the region of €20m according to information from Calciomercato.com. He had originally joined Monza from Inter on loan, before the deal was officially made permanent for a fee of around €4.15m in 2022.

If Inter are serious about bringing Di Gregorio back to San Siro, they could potentially offer another one of their youngsters in exchange, in an attempt to lower the asking price. Gaetano Oristanio has been suggested in Saturday’s reports.

Di Gregorio is, however, not the only goalkeeper who has been observed by Handanovic recently.

Inter’s former no.1 was also in Belgium in February to watch Standard Liege goalkeeper Tobe Leyson in action against OH Leuven.

Inter are also reportedly keeping a keen eye on Brazilian goalkeeper Bento at Atletico Paranaense, who could be on the move if Inter end up willing to pay his €15m price tag.
