Roma met with Alvaro Morata’s entourage today to clarify all the costs associated with a deal for the Atletico Madrid striker, Gianluca Di Marzio details.

The Giallorossi are looking to bolster their frontline this summer, looking to give Jose Mourinho more options following the cruciate ligament injury suffered by Tammy Abraham, which’ll keep him out of action until January at the earliest.

Jose Mourinho would like Roma to sign Morata but the club’s management would prefer a move for Gianluca Scamacca, preferring a younger striker with ties to the Italian capital.

As detailed by Di Marzio, Roma director Tiago Pinto met with Morata’s entourage today to understand how much a deal for the Spanish striker would cost.

Atletico Madrid claim that the 30-year-old’s release clause is €21m, but the player’s agents suggest that they have a document that allows him to be released for around €10-11m.

His salary would cost around €4.5m net per season with €500,000 in add-ons, figures that don’t gel well with the Roma management’s desire for sustainability.

Atletico are also not willing to let Morata leave on loan and his release clause would have to be activated to push through a deal.

Pinto will meet with the Roma management now to take stock of the situation and decide how to move forward.

Inter and Juventus have also been linked with the Spanish striker, but the latter can’t make a move unless they sell a player like Federico Chiesa or Dusan Vlahovic.
