Guglielmo Vicario greatly contributed to Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Manchester United today prompting Spurs fans to apologise to the Italy international after criticising him during the pre-season.

The Italy international took centre stage in Spurs’ 2-0 victory over Manchester United on Saturday with some crucial saves that helped his side secure the first Premier League win of the 2023-24 campaign.

The ex-Empoli keeper had been criticised by Tottenham fans on social media during the pre-season but most of them seem to have changed their minds after today’s performance.

“Let the apologies be as loud as the disrespect,” wrote a fan on Twitter. “Vicario is an extremely talented keeper.”

More apology messages have been posted on social media including thousands of comments on the goalkeeper’s Instagram post celebrating Spurs’ win.

“It’s so good to be home,” wrote Vicario. “Loved it out there. Come on you Spurs.”

Vicario joined Tottenham from Empoli in a €20m deal this summer.

Destiny Udogie, another Italy international started as a left-back for Spurs against Inter‘s ex-keeper André Onana.
