Victor Osimhen will return to Naples by the end of this week following his run to the Africa Cup of Nations final with Nigeria over the course of the last month, but it remains to be seen whether he will be involved in Serie A action this weekend.
Osimhen and Nigeria were beaten 2-1 by hosts Ivory Coast in Sunday’s AFCON final in Abidjan, despite having led 1-0 after an hour.
After his nation’s disappointment, Osimhen will be back in Naples between this Friday and Saturday, reports on Tuesday afternoon suggest.
Given that Napoli are in action against Genoa on Saturday afternoon, kicking off at 14.00 GMT, it is unlikely that Osimhen will be involved if he arrives in Italy on the same day.
It will still be a tight turnaround if Osimhen arrives on Friday, as there will probably not be an opportunity to train with the team heading into the Genoa match. Osimhen also played 200 minutes between the final and semi-final and had been taken off with a slight injury concern at the end of the quarters.
That being said, there are no new concerns over Osimhen’s fitness according to reports from Gianluca Di Marzio.
Walter Mazzarri, however, could wait until the visit of Barcelona in the Champions League next Wednesday to bring Osimhen back into the fold.
